About Health Teams International

In 1986 our founder Dr. Robert Miller formed our HTI article of incorporation. It states only one purpose for HTI — “The purpose is to assist in the evangelization of the unreached people groups of the world through the ministrations of short term Christian healthcare teams.”

HTI has a Very Unique Mission

Most Christian missions are only to help the poor. HTI has a mission whose goal is to reach the unreached people who have never heard of the Christian Gospel. HTI also helps the poor by taking free health care teams to show our love by healing them along with sharing the Gospel.

The Holy Spirit seems to open the hearts of these people to listen to our teaching and accept Jesus into their hearts and become Christians.

In HTI’s 35 years of missions we have seen over 200,000 unreached people become Christians all over the world.

HTI has no dues or membership fees.

Our Motto

Our motto is built on Paul’s talk in Romans 15:19-20: “I go only to those who have never heard the name of Christ, that I not build on another man’s foundation.” To achieve this goal, we concentrate on unreached people groups usually found in the 10/40 world window, although we strive to meet the needs of individuals in other areas as well. Our organization has no dues or membership fees. Everyone is a volunteer who raises funds for missions trips through church, families, friends, and other sponsors. We get discount travel fares to help reduce expenses to the minimum.

Jesus’ Command

In the last verse in the book of Matthew in the Bible, Jesus said, “Go Ye Therefore and Teach all Nations.”

How Do We Do This ?

HTI has been invited into over 60 nations by local Christian pastors. They have gone into unreached people groups and verbally shared the Gospel, but they were not interested in lessoning. The pastors heard of the success of HTI and invited us to come and help them.

Jesus’ Example

Jesus taught the people, healed the people, and was very successful. HTI is trying to follow Jesus’ example.

Healing and Teaching

HTI takes loving health teams including medical, dental, and often we fit reader glasses or prescription glasses.

Most unreached people live in poor rural areas with very little or no health care available at all. We often ask these happy, excited people if they know why we came all the way from United States to help them. We tell them, “It is because we love you. We are Christians. We are taught to love everyone and help people who are in need.”

We then can ask them. “Do you know what Christians believe? Would you like to know?” Most people agree to listen. After hearing the Christian Gospel, most people want to become a Christian, so we then teach them how to become a Christians.

The Follow UP

This now allows us to finish Jesus’ command at the end of Matthew. Jesus said, “Baptizing them and teaching them to observe all things I have taught you.” Since we are only in each area one or a few days we ask our local host pastor to baptize them and teach each new Christian the teaching of Jesus. Local pastors are very happy and excited to do this. We have seen struggling small churches grow large very quickly and we have seen new churches get a big start.

Who Goes on these Missions?

The HTI mission team leader usually interviews interested Christian volunteers until both get acquainted and all the questions get answered. Our most needed volunteers are health care professionals but we always need a few helpers.

Jesus promises us something very important in the very last verse in the book if Matthew, “Low I am with you always even unto the end of the world.”

Team Member Finances

Usually most team volunteers pay for their own way which includes airfare, housing, food, in-country travel and a small gift for our translator.

If you need financial help we advise members to send out letters to their family, relatives, personal and church friends and also to their church. Explain where you are going, what you plan to do, and your need for financial help. These letters are often very helpful.

All expenses of the team member and all gifts are tax deductible. If HTI could help you financially we would be happy to, but most of the time we simply can’t afford it.

Example of a Financial Helper’s Letter

A 23 year old single Christian girl wanted to go with us but didn’t have the money. She sent out numerous letters for financial help and in 48 hours she had enough to pay for her whole mission. She didn’t know how to tell people to stop. In a month she had close to $50,000. She returned with us again next year and more.

Contributions

HTI is exempt from federal income tax under section 503 (2)(3) of the U. S. Internal Revenue Code. All gifts or contributions to HTI are tax deductible and will receive an official receipt from our HTI treasurer.

All mission team members should keep all their receipts from any expenses incurred on their mission trip(s). The total of those expenses will be their tax deductible document.

Our general HTI contributions and gifts are mainly being used to purchase medicine, dental supplies, reader glasses and used reconditioned prescription glasses. Our other overhead is small.

If it wasn’t for your kind contributions and gifts given to HTI we would go bankrupt and we don’t think our Lord would be happy. A great big THANKS to everyone who helps equip us financially so we can continue to share the Gospel with the unreached people all over the world.

What is Your Reward for Being an HTI Mission Member?

You will receive a fantastic feeling of personal reward that our Lord will put right into your HEART! 90% of our first time team mission members have been rewarded so well by our Lord that they return with us again and again.
